Understanding the South Shore Sportsman Club Constitution

Did you know that the Southshore Sportsman Club operates under a Constitution of Bylaws?

The SSS Constitution must be filed with the State of Ohio... We recently made an amendment to our constitution, which raised some important questions:

Do our members know that this document exists?

(the purpose of having a Constitution of By Laws)

What is required to implement a change?

It is the responsibility of the Board Officers and Trustees to adhere to and uphold the Articles of the SSS Constitution. When a suggestion arises that may alter our constitution, there are specific steps that must be followed to implement that change.

The Process:

  •  A board member must propose and make a motion for the change to the entire Board.
  • Another board member must agree and second that motion.
  • The Board must then hold a vote to pass the motion, which subsequently presents the proposal to the Membership.
  • The proposal, along with its implications for the constitution, must be read during three consecutive meetings, allowing the Membership to ask questions or express concerns.
  • After the third reading, the President will invite a member from the floor to motion for the adoption of the new resolution or change.
  • Following the motion and a second, the resolution will be put to a vote, typically through a verbal consensus or a show of hands.

SSS CONSTITUTION PROPOSED ADDITION : ARTICLE III / MEMBERSHIP

Sec. 9 Upon the death of a member, the surviving spouse may assume the deceased spouse’s membership upon request. Surviving spouse will have 60 days from the time of death to notify the board of their wishes. After 60 days, the deceased membership will be considered as surrendered
